Say hello to SafeSpace™ AI Vision Fall Monitoring for senior communities!

SafeSpace™ AI Fall Monitoring was designed specifically with senior living communities in mind. It has features senior living specifically needs, like fully-ambient technology without the need for the resident to wear or remember anything. When a fall occurs It instantly texts the assigned caregiver.

By installing our AI Vision Fall Monitoring™ throughout your facility your staff can be alerted the minute a resident falls 24×7 and this reduces ER costs associated with long time-to-respond fall events, and increases the length of stay. Our SafeSpace™ Fall Detection digital vision system streams to our on-premise AI 24×7 – not to the cloud – enhancing privacy.  When the AI detects a fall and sends a text it attaches a privacy-enhanced video for immediate assessment thus preventing false alerts – something that none of our competition does! In addition, unlike the competition, SafeSpace™ is fully wearable-free, and fully ambient; there is nothing to wear, nothing to remember and automatically works in every room making it the best solution for all seniors and memory care residents. SafeSpace™ Fall Detection works 24×7 day and night. Keep reading to find out why SafeSpace is the best choice in fall technology for your senior community!

About SafeSpace

With a SafeSpace™ Digital Vision AI in every room, your staff will receive a text message as soon as a fall is detected.

Our AI Vision™ sensors privately monitor your facility’s rooms for falls. When a fall triggers our AI, it sends a text to the caregivers you specify and attaches a video of the fall so there is no chance of a false alert.

“I recommend SafeSpace™ AI Privacy Monitoring for all senior facilities. With SafeSpace™ the doctor receives a privacy-enhanced video so they can make a quick and accurate injury assessment and order appropriate treatment without any delay. This greatly reduces the likelihood of long-term injury and reduces ER costs.”

Neck Fob

These are push-button or acceleration-based fall detectors that hang around the neck.

Fall Watches

These are acceleration-based fall detectors worn on the wrist.

SafeSpace™

Always Monitoring

SafeSpace™ is an ambient technology that monitors the space around the senior and the senior does not need to remember to put it on. This is especially helpful at night when most falls occur, and when the senior is least likely to remember or to want to wear a device.

Neck Fobs

Must remember to wear it

Pendants require the resident to remember and be always wearing it, even in the shower or in bed at night. The truth is, unless the senior is strongly motivated to wear it, this often proves to be an ineffective way to detect falls.

Watches

Must remember to wear it

Like pendants, the senior must be committed to wearing the watch, even in the shower and at night in bed, which is when most falls occur. Although it sounds like it’s more convenient than pendants, it suffers similar problems – it requires the senior to wear it 100% of the time.

SafeSpace™

On-the-floor detection

SafeSpace™ detects when the resident is on the floor, no matter how they got there. This is consistent with the requirements of senior facilities to treat an on-the-floor situation as a fall, making SafeSpace™ consistent with a facility’s response requirements.

Neck Fobs

Acceleration detection

Pendants that detect falls do so by measuring acceleration, require the resident to fall quickly and violently. This is often not how a resident falls; if one is slowly losing consciousness, there is often attempt to control the fall and and slip slowly o the ground. Other pendants require the senior to press a button, and after a fall they are often confused and are unable to remember to push the button.

Watches

Acceleration detection

Smart watches work the same way as pendants – by detecting falls by measuring acceleration; or providing a help button which the senior must push to initiate a call for help, but seniors are often too confused after a fall to remember to find the button and push it. And in communities, seniors often don’t want others to know they have fallen, because it means they may be moved to a more restrictive environment.

SafeSpace™

Event Video Log

SafeSpace™ records the fall event in a private video clip and shares it with authorized recipients such as the nurse or therapists. This is essential for determining what caused the fall, making it possible to address the cause and reduce the probability of future falls from occurring. It also provides essential support in the event of a frivolous lawsuit.

Neck Fobs

No Video

Pendants can only detect falls but they can’t tell you any thing more, like what caused the fall, or whether the resident hit their head or how badly the resident may be injured.

Watches

No Video

Smart watches work the same way as pendants and provide no post-fall diagnosis capabilities – no video of the event is available.

SafeSpace™

Perfect for Memory Care

SafeSpace™ is fully-ambient – these is nothing to wear and nothing to remember. It monitors the space the resident inhabits, so it’s perfect for memory care.

Neck Fobs

Unreliable in Memory Care

A senior who can’t remember where they are also can’t remember to wear a pendant, so in memory care the pendent solution is ineffective.

Watches

Unreliable in Memory Care

Smart watches have the same problem in memory care as pendants do – the resident must remember to wear it, and this is a problem with memory care residents.

SafeSpace™

No "Old-Person" Stigma

Because SafeSpace™ is fully ambient, it will detect falls when the senior is in the monitored space no matter how fast or slow they fall, and without them having to remember to wear the device. In addition, because there is a video of the fall event, there is evidence to indicate when a visit to the ER may not be justified, such as when the senior merely lowered themselves to the floor and could not get up. This provides the most savings in ER costs of all the fall solutions.

Neck Fobs

"Old-Person" Stigma

For a lot of seniors, wearing a pendant  carries a stigma which associates them with those who are old, frail, or less capable. This is an impediment – in many cases it is a disincentive to wear the device, and many seniors are secretly resistant to these kinds of devices because of the perceived stigma.

Watches

Less "Old-Person" Stigma

Because smart watches are less obviously associated with seniors at risk for falling,  they carry less of a stigma which

SafeSpace™

No Skin Irritation or Bruising

Because SafeSpace™ is fully ambient, there is nothing to wear and there will be no irritation or bruising.

Neck Fobs

Causes Skin Irritation

When a senior wears a top without a collar, the cord of the pendant over the hours of wear will rub and can create abrasion and skin irritation and soreness. Because senior skin is usually very thin, this is a common occurrence and a real concern.

Watches

Causes Irritation or Bruising

Smart watches must fit fairly tightly in order to prevent them from slipping or rubbing. With the thin skin of a senior, this can actually cause bruising and prevent the senior from wearing the device.

SafeSpace™

Cannot be Circumvented

SafeSpace™ is built into the senior’s space, and monitors continually 24×7. There is no easy way to hide falls, providing the community with a truer picture of the senior’s fall history and provides the facility with root-cause diagnosis and a way to help the senior avoid similar falls in the future.

Neck Fobs

Easily Circumvented

What’s counter-intuitive when selecting a fall detector is that the senior may prefer to get up themselves and not want you to know when they fall. This is especially true in communities where they may have to move or have restrictions placed on them after they have fallen. A pendant is very easy to circumvent.

Watches

Easily Circumvented

Smart watches suffer from the same easy circumvention problem as pendant; the senior might chose want to wear it in private to avoid having to move or have to additional restrictions placed on them for being a high fall-risk individual.

SafeSpace™

Most reduction in ER costs

Because SafeSpace™ is fully ambient, it will detect falls when the senior is in the monitored space no matter how fast or slow they fall, and without them having to remember to wear the device. In addition, because there is a video of the fall event, there is evidence to indicate when a visit to the ER may not be justified, such as when the senior merely lowered themselves to the floor and could not get up. This provides the most savings in ER costs of all the fall solutions.

Neck Fobs

Some Reduction in ER costs

If a senior remembers to wear it, and if the senior falls at the required velocity to trigger the device, this device may reduce ER costs associated with the falls that it detects.

Watches

Some Reduction in ER costs

Because smart watches work the same way as pendants they can also reduce ER costs in those situations where they are triggered by fall that fits the acceleration profile for the device.

Features

3 Reasons We Don’t Recommend a Neck Fob

It Doesn't Work in Memory Care

Seniors in memory care can’t remember what the fall device is for. They don’t remember to push it when they fall, and they push it when they haven’t fallen, and then forget they pushed it. Not great for memory care.

It Requires Cooperation

If a senior falls they and if they can get up on their own then they often don’t want anyone to know about the fall. They are often embarrassed, and worse – if they fall often they may have to change accommodations or lose privileges. There is little incentive to push a fall button if they can avoid it.

It Carries a Stigma

Most seniors don’t want to be seen as “old.” When they wear a fall pendant it labels them as a certified “old person,” so they are often reluctant to wear it.

“They installed a SafeSpace in my mother’s bathroom and a few months later she fell and it notified me right away. I was so grateful to get that notification and was so excited that it worked! We got my mom help right away. I never want to be without it!”

Tom, Investor in SafeSpace

“Being stressed about falling actually increases the likelihood of falling. Just having AI Vision Privacy Monitoring reduces the number of times my patients fall because there is less worry associated with falling. It’s amazing but true.”

Dr. Reyas, SR Medical, Knoxvill

“I feel so much safer knowing I have AI Privacy Monitoring. Just knowing that if I fall that the AI will send a text right away gives me so much peace of mind it’s worth every penny. I never want to be without it.”
